Modification and Registration Inspection
Plus Katsastus is a 100% Finnish vehicle inspection station chain operating throughout Finland with over 70 stations.
Modification and Registration Inspection
We are skilled experts in modification and registration inspections as well.
A modification inspection must be performed when changes are made to a vehicle’s structure or its intended use is changed.
Adding or removing equipment may also require a modification inspection.
Modification inspection requirements should be clarified with the inspection station before starting any modification work. The need may also become apparent during a periodic inspection. Due to booking availability, a modification inspection may not always be possible in conjunction with a periodic inspection. You can best ensure service availability by contacting the station directly.
In addition, vehicles that are to be registered as veteran vehicles must be presented for a modification inspection.
The most common modifications requiring a modification inspection include, for example, so-called minor modification work, such as
- Changes to tire and rim sizes
- Installation of a suspension kit
- Changes to masses
- Conversion to a veteran vehicle
- Change of vehicle class or category
Larger procedures requiring a modification inspection include, for example
- Engine replacement
- Change in engine power (e.g., turbo installation)
- Changes to the vehicle’s axle configuration, body structure, or external dimensions
Traficom has defined detailed criteria for such modifications. It is advisable to familiarize yourself with these on Traficom’s website.
Stop by our inspection station and ask our inspectors for advice if you are not entirely certain about the modification you are planning. This is a sure way to save money and effort. It is also advisable to book a separate appointment for a modification inspection by contacting the station directly to ensure a smooth service experience.
During a registration inspection, the vehicle’s technical data and compliance with regulations are verified, and its condition, structure, and equipment are checked.
A registration inspection must be performed if the vehicle:
- has been imported as new or used.
- you are registering an individual vehicle in Finland.
- the vehicle has previously been removed from traffic use due to damage.
- was previously registered in Finland but was removed from the register before November 2, 2007.
A vehicle that has been imported to Finland as new or used must be inspected and registered before use.
However, a vehicle may be used without paying vehicle tax for up to three months if a separate notification of entry into service has been submitted to the customs authorities. When moving to Finland from abroad, a vehicle brought along may be driven for 30 days, during which time the vehicle must be registered in Finland.
The required documents for imported vehicles are best found on Traficom’s website.
A vehicle tax decision from the Tax Administration is required for registration!
